Rams draw with Hawks

Ramsgate 1-1 Whitehawk

Ramsgate went into the final home game of the regular season against third placed Whitehawk knowing a win would mean they finish above the visitors and guarantee a home play off semi final.

1100 supporters including a healthy following from Whitehawk saw the away team kick off the game shooting towards the town end.

The first real chance fell to Ramsgate as Miller put Jadama through with a clever pass and TJ hit the ball hard and on target but Glover in the Hawks goal made himself big and made a huge save off his shoulder to deny the Rams man.

25 minutes in and Whitehawk won a free kick 25 yards out, the effort is struck firmly but goes wide of Bexons’ goal.

On 40 minutes Osinfolarin twisted and turned on the right before cutting inside and putting a cross into the box on his left foot, a Hawks defender half cleared but it fell to Rowland who headed over the bar.

Then on the stroke of half time Ramsgate had the lead. The impressive Jadama carried the ball through the midfield before laying it out wide to Ashley Miller. Miller took on his man on the outside before he clipped a delightful cross into the back post where Tom Carlse stooped to head home from close range for his first Rams goal.

Into the second half and while The Rams still had the bulk of possession and territory it took a Jake Mcintyre goal line clearance to ensure the lead stayed intact.

A minute later and the home side had a penalty as Jadama was bundled over in the box. Miller stepped up to take it but his effort lacked power and Glover was able to save and the ball was cleared to safety.

On 64 minutes Whitehawk were level. A quick free kick moved the ball to the right and as the ball was delivered poor marking meant Whitehawk won the first ball, it fell to O’Toole who finished well into the bottom corner.

Rams tried to push for the winner by changing shape and introducing Carvalho and Riley-Snow and Rams did nearly steal it in the last minute. Bexon passed to Taofiq who hit a long ball which evaded the entire Whitehawk defence and found Paxman running clean through on goal however the midfielder opted for power over placement and struck the ball over the bar meaning the match ended 1-1 and we still need a win against Ashford next Saturday to guarantee second place.
