Goalscorer Lauric Diakiesse

Ramsgate progressed to the next round of the Kent Senior Trophy on penalties after an entertaining 1-1 draw against Herne Bay at the WW Martin Community Stadium.

In a torrential downpour it was Ramsgate who started the brightest as Jadama broke into the box but he was thwarted by an excellent Johnson tackle.

On 12 minutes Kymani Thomas broke down the wing for Herne Bay and put in a cross but it took a wicked deflection which went narrowly wide for a corner.

It was Bay on the attack again shortly after as Jason Banton found himself in space and released the ball to Smith, he shot but it was deflected over for another corner.

On the half hour mark a free kick from Osfinolarin was passed to Richards who in turn played it to Prescott, he took one touch and curled an effort at goal from distance but it was comfortable for the keeper.

Next a shot from Allsopp caused Bexon in the Ramsgate goal trouble as he failed to claim the slippery ball at the first attempt but after a scramble the danger was everted.

Into the second half and Ramsgate came out a different team playing with a lot more energy and intensity and the Herne Bay keeper had to be at his best to deny efforts from Ajayi and Jadama.

On 55 minutes a cross from the right bounced up in the Herne Bay box and hit a defenders hand, it looked a certain penalty but the referee waved away the home sides protests.

Minutes later magical feet had Jadama running at goal only for a Herne Bay defender to go into the back of him, TJ hit the ground but once again the referee failed to award a penalty.

65 minutes and former Rams man Rory Smith found himself in the box and hit an effort at goal, Bexon at full stretch made a flying save to deny him.

On 80 minutes and a corner from the Ramsgate right found an unmarked Johnson who powered home a header to give the visitors the lead.

With time running out debutant Haastrup sprinted down the left wing and put in a low cross, Diakiesse controlled and then backheeled the ball into the net for a deserved equaliser.

The match went to penalties and with Ramsgate having scored six out of their seven penalties. Thomas stepped up for Herne Bay knowing he had to score, he hit it hard but the ball cannoned back off the cross bar and Ramsgate progress to the next round.
