Ramsgate 2-1 VCD Athletic
Ramsgate came in to the game five games unbeaten under new manager Jamie Coyle and looking to make it six against managerless VCD who hadn’t tasted victory in nine games.
It was VCD who were on the front foot straight from kick off though as the tried to play the ball over the Rams defence but Bexon was off his line quickly to collect.
Six minutes in and good interplay from Paxman and Aboagye gave Carvalho the chance to cross but a defender came across quickly to snuff out the danger.
VCD put a good move together on the left hand side creating an overload against Carlse but good defensive work from Miller saw the Rams gain possession back.
On 13 minutes a nasty clash of heads left Tom Carlse down and after lengthy treatment he had to leave the field with a suspected concussion and was replaced by Howlett-Mudle with Mcintyre moving to left back.
Rams took the lead on 22 minutes Liburd ran in from the right and squared for Carvalho who converted from close range via a deflection.
Just a minute later and it was nearly two as Aboagye linked up with Carvalho and he shot just wide of the post.
The home side were really on top now and Jadama fizzed a shot just over the bar before Liburd tested the VCD keeper who made a smart stop.
On the stroke of half time Ramsgate won a free kick and Miller whipped a shot at goal but the visiting keeper did well to keep it out.
Into the second half and Rams made it 2-0 on 49 minutes. Miller sprinted down the left and when in a good position to score himself he unselfishly squared for Liburd to score in his second consecutive game.
On the hour mark and TJ Jadama went close again pulling his shot agonisingly wide as the home side looked to seal the victory.
The next 20 minutes saw a midfield battle and bookings for Howlett-Mundle for the Rams and Adesite for VCD but little in the way of goalmouth action.
Then on 85 minutes Miller took a driven corner and the ball was met by the head of Jadama but a VCD defender was in the right place on the line and got a big knee to the ball to clear.
Just as the hosts looked to be cruising to victory VCD got one back scored by Tolulope Temitayo to ensure a nervy end to the game but The Rams held on to win 2-1 and go four points clear at the top of the table.
