Liburd fires Rams to victory

Corinthian 2-3 Ramsgate

It was top versus bottom as Ramsgate travelled to Gay Dawn Farm to face Corinthian and aiming to make it ten games unbeaten.

There were two changes from last weeks win over East Grinstead as Rowan Liburd returned to the starting line up to replace Youssouf Bamba and Lee Prescott came in for Denzelle Olopade.

Corinthian kicked off the game and won a free kick 35 yards out following a foul by Ashley Miller, the ball was played into the box but headed away to the edge of the area where Housego was waiting but he curled his effort wide of the left hand post.

Nine minutes were on the clock when Rams took the lead. Miller received the ball on the left and burst clear of his marker at pace before crossing for Liburd to head home from close range as the striker scored his fourth goal in his last 20 minutes of action.

Rams were very much in the ascendency now as first Prescott hit a left footed effort straight at the keeper from range and then Mcintrye hit a powerful effort across the keeper who did well to tip it wide.

The second goal wasn’t long in coming though as on 16 minutes Miller whipped in a corner right on top of the keeper, he could only push the ball into the air and Liburd rose well to nod home his second of the game.

The visitors seemed to take their foot off the gas after the second goal and Corinthian grew back into the game as firstly a shot was deflected off Coyle and out for a corner and then a long range effort cleared the bar of Bexon.

The home side did have a goal back on 34 minutes though, Coyle could only clear a cross straight up into the air and although Jadama won the subsequent header it fell to Housego on the edge who found Futa in the box, he struck a left footed effort at goal and past Bexon to half the deficit going into half time.

Rams tried to get going in the second half again but could only muster a half chance as Jadama blazed over from the edge of the area.

On 58 minutes Corinthian hand good possession down the Ramsgate right and whipped in a cross to the far post, it evaded everyone and cannoned back off the bar.

On the hour mark Prescott went into a challenge but was late, the hosts wanted a red card but much to the much relief for Ramsgate the referee only produced a yellow.

Shortly after a double substitution for The Rams as Olopade and Bamba replaced Carvalho and Prescott.

On 81 minutes Rowland was dragged down on the edge of the area and a free kick was given Bamba stepped up but his effort hit the wall and deflected out for a corner.

Corinthian had a huge chance to level on 90 minutes as a corner was whipped in and a Corinthian attacker unmarked won the header but could only glance it wide.

Seconds later and Jadama nipped in front of his man to win the ball Futa came in high and with his studs showing to foul the Ramsgate man and the referee had no hesitation in pulling out the red card.

Jadama was in the thick of the action again moments later as he won the ball and drove towards the area, the ball found it’s way to Liburd who controlled, spun his man and slotted home to secure a second consecutive hat trick and give the Rams a 3-1 lead.

With time running out Corinthian had the ball down the right and put a cross in. Bexon called for the ball but missed it and took out his man giving away a penalty. Housego converted to make it 3-2 but seconds later the referee blew for full time.

Ramsgate remain four points clear at the top of the table and now unbeaten in ten games.
