Ramsgate travel to last season’s FA Vase finalists Littlehampton Town on Saturday looking to maintain their unbeaten away record in the Isthmian South-East.
There is a point to prove for The Rams, who have won four and drawn two of their six away fixtures this season, as they last suffered defeat away from Southwood at Littlehampton’s Sportsfield in The FA Trophy in early September.
On a night to forget, Steve Lovell’s side were without a host of injured players. Captain Jake McIntyre, player of the season TJ Jadama, Jack Paxman and Jack Richards were all on the treatment table while Lucas Atkins suffered the injury that has kept him out since then and Ben Fitchett was sent off for a second yellow card.
The Rams started brightly and could have scored twice in the opening fifteen minutes but lost their way and were deservedly beaten by the Sussex side. The main positive for Ramsgate supporters was welcoming Kane Rowland back to the club following his transfer from Sittingbourne.
Since then things have gone from strength to strength. Now top of the league by two points and 13 above The Marigolds, manager Lovell is looking forward to the challenge. He said “I’m looking forward to our game against a strong Littlehampton team. They knocked us out of the FA Trophy earlier in the season, so we know all about them. They are a powerful side and will provide us with another good test.”
The Rams face a number of mouthwatering clashes over the next month against sides all occupying the places directly below. Ashford, Chichester, Chatham and Sittingbourne are all due to visit The WW Martin Community Stadium while away from home there are fixtures against Whitehawk, Beckenham and Cray Valley.
“We have had some good results lately and now head into a run of games against teams around us.
“We are fortunate to have a deep squad with a lot of flexibility which is needed at the moment as we’ve picked up a few injuries recently but this happens in football, so we have accounted for this and built our squad accordingly.”
Ramsgate return to Southwood on 26th November in what, if results go for both sides this weekend, could be a 1st v 2nd clash against last seasons beaten play-off finalists Ashford united. A game not to miss!
